Europe's First Small F-Class Gas Turbine EPC Project
A combined cycle power plant for the Balkans region — and the first overseas deployment of small F-class gas turbine technology in this engineering supply chain, delivered as a single EPC turnkey contract.
A grid operator in the Balkans needed efficient, dispatchable gas-fired capacity — built to international technical standards, integrated into a regional grid context, and delivered without spreading project risk across multiple vendors. The technology selected was small F-class gas turbine — a class of equipment that, in this engineering supply chain, had not previously crossed borders.
This case examines a combined cycle power plant delivered for a Balkans grid operator under a full EPC turnkey contract. It marked the first overseas deployment of small F-class gas turbine technology through this engineering pipeline — coordinating component certification, design alignment, and commissioning between European tier-1 OEM partners and a local installation context.
The challenge
Two layers of complexity sat above the project, neither of them about the engineering itself.
Balkans grid required additional dispatchable, efficient gas-fired baseload capacity
Small F-class gas turbine technology had no prior overseas track record in this engineering pipeline
Multi-vendor coordination would have shifted technical and commercial risk back to the client
All imported core equipment had to meet international technical specifications without local substitution
Our solution
One contract. One responsible party. Cross-border supply chain — managed end to end.
A full EPC turnkey covering engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning under a single contractor. Core power island components — gas turbine, steam turbine, generators — sourced through coordinated alignment with Ansaldo, a global tier-1 OEM. Component certification, technical specification alignment, and final commissioning all rolled up into one accountable workstream rather than a vendor-management problem for the client.
Full EPC turnkey — single contract covering design through commissioning
Core equipment alignment with Ansaldo (tier-1 global gas turbine OEM)
All imported components verified against international technical specifications
First successful overseas deployment of small F-class GT in this engineering line
Key results & impact
The project demonstrated something most EPC contractors don't get to demonstrate twice — that tier-1 OEM coordination can be carried across national borders, technical standards, and commissioning protocols, all under a single contractual umbrella.
